This is the weak link in my Whirlpool washing machine purchased in 2003... When my machine broke down for the second time, I figured I knew just what is was, and started researching to fix it with my husband's help rather than pay the repairman the $80 just to show up. Turned out that my son had just left a small screwdriver in his pocket that was jamming the wash basin, but I would like to confirm what other people were saying about NOT buying the replacement part with the metal insert. The first time my machine broke, the repairman replaced the motor coupler with the metal reinforced replacement part, when we took the machine apart to replace it again, not only had the metal from the inside part rusted onto the motor shaft making it really difficult to remove, we could see the damage already done to the motor shaft by the outside part, and replaced it with the 28573 part without the metal to prevent further wear to the flats in the shaft. It is easy enough (when the part hasn't rusted on the shaft) to replace this part, and I would rather not have to replace the motor - or the machine!!
